Kurwin White

Director of Educational Services

Kurwin is the current Director/Principal of Jefferson Area technical Career Center (JATCC) located in Pine Bluff, AR. Kurwin was born in New Orleans, LA on May 2, 1970. He graduated from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice in May 1995. He attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (1996-1997) where he pursued a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice. He completed his Masters of Science degree in Criminal Justice Education at the University of Cincinnati in December 2009. In 2010-2011, Kurwin pursued a PhD in Public Safety with a focus in Emergency Management (44 hours are complete at this time). In 2014, Kurwin stated a Masters program in Education Leadership at Harding University (two courses left to complete).

Kurwin joined the United States Army Reserve in December 1988 in Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, and started his work career in Arkansas, with the Arkansas Department of Corrections in October 1989. In October 1990, as part of the 299th Engineering Battalion Army reserve Unity, then located in Pine Bluff, he was called to active duty to serve in the Persian Gulf War. In years to follow, after earning his Bachelor’s Degree, Kurwin returned to work for ADC and the Department of Community Corrections.

 

In December 2001, Kurwin took a job with L-3/Titan Communication in Fairfax, VA, as a Law Enforcement Analyst. He returned to Arkansas in October 2003 continuing his work for L-3/Titan from his home in Pine Bluff. From May 2004-2007, Kurwin worked part time as a police officer in Gould, AR, where he served as interim-Chief of Police. In January of 2004, Kurwin was hired as an Adjunct Criminal Justice Professor at Southeast Arkansas College where he taught numerous courses until July 2017. July 2016, Kurwin gained employment at Jefferson Area Technical Career Center (JATCC) as a high school criminal justice teacher. Kurwin  has been in his current position as Director/Principal of JATCC since July 2015. He leads a 16-person team of educators covering various areas of core and occupational academic related programs.

Kurwin is a 2011 Graduate and Active Member os the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI Citizens Academy) Little Rock Office, a Certified Trainer for the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) a member of the Jefferson County Drug Court Outreach Foundation (Judge Alex Guynn), a member of Phi Beta Sigma, Fraternity, Inc., and Prince Hall Masonic Lodge of Arkansas.
